According to Zooinform, sales volume in the pet products market in 2024 amounted to ₽510 billion. It has increased by 17.7% since last year.

According to Zooinform, sales volume in the pet products market in 2024 amounted to ₽510 billion, which is equivalent to $6.2 billion (at the average exchange rate for 2022–2024). Experts believe that the pet market increased by 17.7% last year, while annual inflation, according to Rosstat, reached 9.52%.
The growth of the pet products market has slowed compared to 2023, when it reached 31.2%, but is still significant. This indicates stable dynamics of the industry development and an increase in consumer demand for pet products.
Alexander Kolchin, Content Director of Zooinform, Advisor to the President of the National Association of the Pet Industry:
“The Russian pet products market is once again pleasing with the dynamics of sales growth, the ability to quickly adapt to changes and effectively use emerging opportunities for development. In 2024, the driver of the growth of the pet products market was cat and dog food, which accounted for approximately 80% of the total sales of pet products in monetary terms.”
The entire year saw very active growth in the production of rations. In October, manufacturers set a record for the production of pet food – 138.4 thousand tons, and ended 2024 at 1.5 million tons of manufactured products. The production volume increased by 10% in physical terms, which reflects the increase in demand in the feed market, where preference is now given to Russian brands and products manufactured in the country.

In 2024, sales of cat and dog food reached ₽411 billion, and cat litter — ₽44.7 billion. Sales of other pet products, according to Zooinform, last year amounted to ₽45 billion. At the same time, the share of food for all pets is estimated at 82% of the market, litter — 9%, and other products — 8.9%.

The growth of sales in the pet market is largely due to the process of humanization, when people begin to perceive their pets as family members, children or companions. This leads to the fact that many aspects of the human lifestyle are extended to pets. As a result of humanization, owners try to provide their pets with the best that they consider important for themselves, be it organic or vegetarian food, functional products or environmentally friendly pet products.
The pet population is also growing. Last year, the Center for the Study of Animal Nutrition and Welfare and the analytical company Ipsos presented the study “All-Russian Census of Domestic Animals – 2023”. According to their data, in 2023, 68 million Russians owned dogs and cats. The total number of pets in the country is 74.8 million, of which 49.2 million are cats, 25.5 million are dogs. Russia ranks 3rd in the world in the number of cats and 4th in the number of dogs.
